Update on the water supply situation 1st to 5th Jan 2011 – updated 3.00 pm on 1st Jan

The following is the position on the production and demand for water as at midnight on 31st December 2010:

Production: 546.3 Mld Demand:545 Mld Storage at Stillorgan Reservoir is now at 551 Mld.

Restrictions will have to continue to ensure that drinking water storage levels return to normal levels. Details of the restrictions for the next few days 1st January to 5th January are given below. The restrictions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and the regime may have to be altered if the situation changes.

A large number of internal leaks have already been identified on properties empty over the holiday period. All key holders throughout the city should return to their premises as soon as possible to check for leaks on their property.

Tankers have been sent to the following locations Saturday 1stJanuary 2011 (10:00 until 16:00):

  • Artane Castle, Shopping Centre (Off Skellys lane), Coolock.
  • Lidl, St. Margarets Rd,
  • Northside Shopping Centre, Oscar Traynor Rd.
  • Church at Griffith Ave (between Philipsburgh Avenue and Malahide Rd, At St Mary’s College)
  • We will also have a number of mobile tankers available to respond to areas as needed. These locations may change in response to need.We would ask consumers to bring their own containers. We would like to thank people for their patience and cooperation and we would ask that people report locations where they see water running/rising to the contacts given below.

Bogus callers may use the current water problems to gain access to houses. If a member of Dublin City Council calls to a property they will always carry and produce identification. If the caller asks you to check the flow of water at the taps, close the door fully while you do so. If you are in any doubt do not allow access.

Customers should be aware that unlike some other utilities, water distribution systems cannot be operated and managed to the point where the exact locations and precise times at which the effects of pressure alternations (both increases and decreases) will be experienced, however we do make every effort to ensure that the times and areas effected are limited to those mentioned above.

Dublin City Council appeals to the owners/operators of car washes which use mains water to discontinue their use for the duration of the current water supply crisis. Similarly, we ask owners of private cars to refrain from washing them for the moment.
